GROW in a coaching conversation

The GROW model is one of the most used coaching methods in the world. As a coaching
manager you do not help others by imposing things, but rather by asking many questions. Thereby you give others insight into their own wishes, needs and motives and explain the responsibility with them. It is important to use a good method to facilitate the learning process of your coachee
GROW is a 4-stage method that you helps to ask the right questions and to structure the conversation. You help your coachee with this to set a goal for themselves.

The 4-staes are: Goal (set goal), Reality (view current situation), Options (determin opportunities), Will (choose actions)When you go through the 4 phases you are making a bigger goal, a concrete plan.

Goal

  • What do you want to achieve with this session
  • What do you want to achieve with this coaching program?
  • I have an hour available; how far do you want to go in this
  • What would help you most in this session?
  • How do you measure if you have achieved your goal?
Reality

  • What does your situation look like now?
  • How do you feel about that?
  • What is your main concern?
  • What was the effect of that
  • What have you done about it thus farWhat worked and what dinot?
  • What has stopped you for trying others things?
  • What resources do you have at your disposal?
  • What are the consequences if you don’t reach your goal?

Options

  • What do you want to choose as a work method?
  • Do you have alternatives
  • Do you see more possibilities
  • What are the pros and cons of the options?
  • Which option will give you the most satisfaction?
  • What would an action list look like?

Will

  • What will you do now?
  • Which of the alternatives on the list will you start to work with?
  • When will you do this
  • What are possible obstacles?
  • Does this action fulfil your goal? (= checkpoint
  • On a scale of 1 to 10; how motivated are you to work on this goal?
  • What would make that a 10?
  • What kind of help do you need, how and when will you obtain that support?
  • Which hindrances may you come across
  • How can I further support you with this?
