Prime your success

Resolutions often have a low chance of success. Setting goals is one thing, but working toward them is another. Did you know there is a way to do the work without even noticing it? You can give yourself a recurring boost with goal priming.

How does goal priming work? Your brain perceives and processes all information in your environment without you being aware of it. So if your brain picks up the same information more often, that information remains top of mind, triggering you to do something with the information.

How does this help you achieve your goals? By making the information relevant to your goal visible in your environment, your brain will subconsciously be reminded of your goal. This unconscious thinking process then directs your behavior. As a result, you automatically make choices that align with your goal.

Do you feel stressed at work, and are you trying to unwind? Choose a beautiful landscape or a tropical island as your computer wallpaper. Do you want to be successful in your career? Surround yourself with photos of people whose success you admire. Subconsciously, these images will remind you of your goal. You can achieve the same effect using language; words or phrases that fit your goal will motivate you. So take a look around and take action. Make your goals visible and, therefore, achievable.
