This is how you get a creative brain

Creative thinking can be described as seeing common ground between concepts that at first sight do not have much in common. Every person has the ability to think creatively and you can stimulate this in yourself in various ways. You can increase your creativity by finding a different (stimulating) environment or by looking at things from a different perspective. But what is perhaps even more interesting and sustainable; you can actually increase your creativity in your brain.

Plastic brain
Until the 1970s, the brain was believed to be a static organ; it develops in childhood and then it stops growing. We now know that our brain continues to develop throughout our lives and is constantly changing. Our brain is as neuro-scientists call it; plastic. It adapts depending on your environment, your experiences, new things you learn and the people you interact with. Every time you have a new experience, this is stored in your brain and existing connections are strengthened and new connections can even grow between synapses. The more (strong) connections you have in your brain, the faster larger brain areas can be activated simultaneously. This increases your thinking flexibility and helps you connect different concepts or ideas together faster and come up with new creative concepts. Moreover, a brain with high plasticity is better able to learn new things. In short; seeking out new experiences increases your creative thinking capacity and makes you a better learner.

What will you be doing for the first time this week?
